ABOUT

Home Is ... is a grassroots project curated by Tolu Agbelusi between 2014 - 2019 using poetry led collaborations with visual arts to interrogate what we mean when we talk about home; and to understand how people conceptualise home. It was a conversation between people and art forms.

HOW?

We collected stories from over 40 people from around the UK through recorded interviews and facilitated workshops. These narratives were used in diverse ways: individual stories were transposed into poems, interview snippets were woven into documentary styled shorts and sentiments from collected stories filtered into the writing of the play, Ilé La Wà which formed part of the project.

Poetry is the central art form in Home Is....

On the arts and culture scene, poetry often responds to other art; it was imperative in conceptualising the Home Is... Project that poetry took the lead.Other art forms were heartily invited to the conversation on the condition that drew inspiration from poetry. Illustration, dance, animation, theatre and poetry came together and the result was spectacular.
